“Our help is in the name of the LORD…”
Read Psalm 124
One of the natural characteristics of man is that he thinks that he can do many things himself. Even small children will tell you, “I can do it myself!” The elderly often have a difficult time accepting the fact that certain things are becoming too difficult for them to accomplish.
In Psalm 124, David, a powerful man, speaks. He too had high thoughts of himself, thinking that he could do many things, but by God’s grace, he learned to see his weaknesses.
We too must learn not to trust in our own abilities, but to expect all our help from the Lord. In the Psalm we are considering, we read the Psalmist’s confession that through the Lord’s help he es-caped many dangers. The devil sets many traps to try to catch us, which, of ourselves, we cannot escape. But then a miracle happens – God steps in and He delivers. And this is all possible because of Jesus Christ, who has overcome all the traps laid out for Him on Golgotha.
As a result, we may confess, “Our help is in the name of the Lord.”
Do you know the Lord Jesus as your personal Saviour? Today is still the time of grace.
What kind of traps does Satan lay for you?
