“Eyes wide open”
Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not?
Read Proverbs 23:1-18
Sometimes we come across verses in the Book of Proverbs that have the potential to make us think more carefully. This is true of our text today. It is an incredible blessing to be given good eye-sight. With our eyes we are able to view the whole created world the Lord has given us. While we may enjoy this, there are some things it would be better for us not to see. They are things which are important to the world but usually have no value for us, either temporally or eternally.
When we speak of seeing things spiritually, we often use the phrase “the eye of faith.” The epitome of seeing with the eye of faith is when we are given a view of the Lord Jesus. We must thank Him daily for all that we can see physically, but we must continually pray that our eyes, spiritually blind by nature, might be opened. When that takes place, we will not only be shown our sin and our guilt but we will also see the beauty and love of the Lord Jesus.
How can your eyes be opened?
