“Life or death”
I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
Read Revelation 3:1-6
People sometimes pretend to be something they are not. Maybe you do that. You are popular among your friends and acquaintances, but at home you annoy your family. This also happens among Christians; somebody may look pious to their friends, but inwardly they are not. They seem to be serious church attendees but do not shrink back when cheating on their taxes. They are active in church activities and faithfully attend catechism classes but secretly watch immoral movies. At home they are often quarrel-some, and their lifestyle does not accord with Scripture. They have a name that they live, but are spiritually as dead as a door nail.
This was the case with the church of Sardis. None of their works were acceptable before God. They were a double-minded people, having one foot in the world and the other in the church. God demands our all. It is impossible to serve God when it suits us and enjoy worldly amusements that consume much of our free time.
Perhaps you squirm when reading today’s text, knowing it describes you. Others desire to serve the Lord uprightly. Remember, there is but one of two choices that you can make. It is life or death.
Life or death: Which do you seek?
