God’s Ways Are Holy
If thou wilt diligently hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God,
and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his
commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these
diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians:
for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
Exodus 15:26
Read Exodus 15:23-27
Naaman’s young slave girl became a sign in a foreign land. She directed her
mistress to seek help from the prophet of Israel. She knew that this prophet
from Samaria declared the Word of the Lord and performed His work. If you
are personally convicted that the Lord can bring about a wonderful change
in a sinner’s life, then it becomes your desire that others would also come
to know this Saviour. Then you would want to bind the following truth on
everyone’s heart: Humble yourself before the mighty hand of God. The best
place for a poor sinner is at the feet of the great Physician.
The young girl in Naaman’s home was convinced that neither the prophet
nor the God of the prophet would turn her master away. In this amazing
way, a simple young slave girl was able to declare the message of God’s mercy
in a heathen land. A variation of that same message of salvation may be
proclaimed today as well: Be ye reconciled to God!
Remarkably, Naaman’s wife did not dismiss the suggestion made by this
young slave. She and her husband were willing to receive directions for
a remedy from her. It would be quite an undertaking to travel from Damascus,
the pearl of the East, to Samaria for help. This meant that Naaman
would have to go against his national pride in light of his great need. All his
objections had to fall away.
Thought: Is there ever a time that a person should not direct others to seek
help and grace from God?
Psalter 440: 5 (based on Psalm 77)
Holy in Thy habitation
Are Thy ways, Lord of creation.
There’s no god, O God, like Thee,
Clothed with strength and majesty.
Thou eternal art and glorious,
All Thy wondrous works victorious:
Let the nations, spread abroad,
Know that Thou alone art God.
