And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one;
to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his
journey. Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with
the same and made them other five talents.
Matthew 25:15, 16
Read Matthew 25:14-19
The parable before us indicates that as soon as the lord had distributed talents
to his servants, he went on a long journey to a distant land. While the
term, straightway refers to the master in our English version, in the Greek
original it may also describe the servant who was given five talents. He, as
well as the servant who was given two talents, immediately went to work
using his talents.
Procrastination is very dangerous when it comes to the kingdom of God.
The Lord says in His Word: Make haste for thy life’s sake, while people reply:
Haste makes waste. By nature we think that we have plenty of time, yet
the Lord says: Today, if ye will hear my voice. Instead, we often come with
our, Yah, buts. Yah, but, I cannot convert myself, can I? A person cannot just
begin to believe of himself can he? We continually come with our yah buts
and our objections.
How long have you already been opposing the will of God? The Lord says to
you today: Repent and be converted! How blessed when our tongues, with
all our and’s, if’s, and but’s, are silenced before the Lord.
Just look at what we read in the parable before us. Those who busily used
the talents given them were richly blessed; they actually made one hundred
percent profit! Consider how the psalmist portrays the godly in Psalm 1:
He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers…and whatsoever he doeth shall
prosper. The Lord will never put to shame those who expect everything
from Him!
Thought: What is the secret to blessings and profits?
Psalter 1: 2,3,5 (based on Psalm 1)
Yea, blessed is he who makes God’s law His portion and delight,
And meditates upon that law With gladness day and night.
That man is nourished like a tree Set by the river’s side;
Its leaf is green, its fruit is sure, And thus his works abide.
The Lord will guard the righteous well, Their way to Him is known;
The way of sinners, far from God, Shall surely be o’erthrown.
