The Lord’s Perfect Care
And the barrel of meal did waste not, neither did the cruse of oil fail,
according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.
1 Kings 17:16
Read 1 Kings 17:8-16
The Lord cared for Elijah. To protect him from the wrath of King Ahab, the
Lord sent Elijah to the brook Cherith. There he had water to drink from the
brook, and there ravens brought him bread and meat to eat both morning
and evening. Ravens are scavengers, and in times of scarcity, they may even
eat their young. This shows us the greatness of the miracle; God fed Elijah
by these birds of prey.
When the water from the brook dried up, the prophet was sent by the Lord
to a widow in Zarephath. When he arrived there, she was about to use the
last of her oil and flour to make one last meal for herself and her son. Here
too, the Lord performed a miracle; every day the oil in her cruse and the
flour in her barrel were replenished. We must realize that the Lord does
not only marvelously provide in extreme situations, but He provides under
normal circumstances as well. The seasons follow their course as He has ordained.
However, His particular care is reserved for His people. He provides
for their souls as well as their daily needs. Are we willing to speak about
this truth to others? The Lord cares in a most perfect way for those who
believe in Him; they will lack nothing. Do you really believe this?
Thought: We must never be overly concerned.
Psalter 90:4,5 (based on Psalm 34)
Around His saints as watch and ward Encamps the angel of the Lord;
That God is good, O taste and see, Who trusts in Him shall blessed be.
Fear Him, ye saints, and do His will, And all your needs He will fulfill,
Tho’ beasts of forest lack their food. Those seeking God shall want no good.
