Let’s face it, we have been going through life and it all seems to be going pretty well. Then something happens; whether a friend tells you something, a burden rises back up in your life, or you have to tell a close friend something important. These kinds of events change who we are, how we look at others and how they look at us. This is the kind of thing everyone would like to avoid, but sometimes we can’t and we must go through the hard times.
In times like these the best thing to do is turn to the Lord and pray! Praying is the only thing that helps even if it feels like it won’t help at that moment. It is the best prescription to any problem regardless of how we like it at the time or not. Don’t think that the Lord isn’t going to listen. He is listening even if you don’t feel it right away. As 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says “Pray without ceasing”. That’s the best thing that you can do. The times when it’s hardest to pray are the times that you need to be on your knees the most.
Pray for others, pray for yourself, and pray for God’s peace, wisdom, and mercy in these situations. As the apostle Paul says in Ephesians 6:18, “Praying always in all prayer and supplication in the spirit and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.” Prayer should be every Christian’s response to the ups and downs of life. Whether it is negative or positive we need to pray either for strength or in thanksgiving. All too often when life is going good we don’t think to pray or don’t think we even need to pray. We still do need too! If not for us then for others that aren’t doing well or are struggling. Or for those that are working in God’s kingdom or just thanking God for the fact that there aren’t any burdens in your life at the present time.
Whether you are at a high or a low in life you need to pray often. It’s a very powerful weapon and one that is at times not used enough. Whether you think you’re too busy or God doesn’t care enough, make time for Him in prayer because He wants to hear His children’s prayers.
