A fountain

“A fountain of blood”

There is no more offering for sin. —Hebrews 10:18

Read Hebrews 10:8-18

All Old Testament offerings pointed to the coming of Christ. The prophets told the people which offerings were acceptable to the Lord. And now, here in our text, we read of a conclusion made by the Lord Himself. His estimation of all those sacrifices was that they were unsatisfactory and unable to restore the relationship between God and man.

But Christ puts all those animal sacrifices that involved shedding of blood aside. He Himself, as the Son of God, has perfectly ful-filled the will of God the Father. What a difference there is between the work of earthly priests and the work of Christ (v.11)! The priests were continually busy bringing the same offerings time after time, while they could not really pay for the peoples’ sins. Christ brought His sacrifice but once; it was sufficient and complete. When the priest entered the Holy Place it was with fear and trembling. He performed his work quickly and immediately exited, for that place was holy. But Christ has not only suffered and died, laying down His life for sin, but has also resurrected and ascended into heaven to sit down at the right hand of His Father on behalf of His children. The perfect sacrifice has been made!
