Accountability
After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. Matthew 25:19
Read Romans 14:5-12
After being away for a long time, the lord returned to his estate and inquired how his servants had fared using the talents given them before he had left. After all, they were his goods. Reporting to his master, the first servant was able to declare: Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. This was a short, business-like report which really testified of faithful, obedient industry.
Immediately thereafter, the servant who had been given two talents also appeared. He too could briefly report that he had gained another two talents from the sum that had been given him. Both of these servants received the following approbation on account of their labours: Thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. (Matt. 25:21).
In this development we see what is also prophesied in Revelation 20:12: And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. Heaven was opened unto them. Angels sang a song of welcome to the redeemed who would now serve the Lord perfectly, without sin. How bountiful was their reward! Was this reward given due to their achievements? Not at all! This reward was not in accordance with what they deserved. If that were true, things would not look so rosy. It is all of grace. This reward is given freely on the basis of the merits of the Mediator, of the Saviour, the Lord Jesus.
Thought: Why will the excuse that you have no talents prove to be insufficient in the end?
Psalter 407: 3,4 (based on Psalm 149) In glory exult, Ye saints of the Lord; With songs in the night High praises accord; Go forth in His service And strong in His might To conquer all evil And stand in the right. For this is His word: His saints shall not fail, But over the earth Their power shall prevail; All kingdoms and nations Shall yield to their sway. To God give the glory And praise Him for aye.
