“Jesus”
He shall save his people from their sins. —Matthew 1:21
Read Matthew 1:18-25
Some people use the term “heavenly” very easily. They speak of heavenly weather, a heavenly vacation or heavenly chocolates. But they do not understand the real meaning of this word. Something that is heavenly has to do with salvation, which means to be delivered from the greatest evil and transported to the high-est good. Of ourselves, we are miserable, lost sinners; there is no possibility of saving ourselves.
But how blessed is the knowledge that there is a Saviour. The name Jesus, or Joshua, means Saviour. In Hebrews 12:2 we read that Jesus is the author and the finisher of our faith. The Lord Jesus brings His people into the heavenly Canaan where their rest is a perfect rest (Heb.4:8). Christ Jesus is the great High Priest of His people. He had no sin whatsoever and therefore could take the guilt of others upon Himself. What a Saviour the Lord is!
