“He hath prepared for them a city…” —Hebrews 11:16

Read Hebrews 11:1-16

One day, on a day like any other, Christ will return. On that day, you could be attending school or busy studying for an exam. You might be reading or listening to some devotions. It’s also possible that you could be somewhere you really do not belong.

But suddenly, you will hear the sound of trumpets blowing from heaven! Then the Lord Jesus will appear, sitting upon a great, white throne, from which He will judge the world. This event will mean the end of the world as we know it. Let this thought sink in for a minute.

Now, consider the following hymn:

Day of judgment, day of wonders! Hark! The trumpet’s awful sound, Louder than a thousand thunders, Shakes the vast creation round! How the summons will the sinner’s heart confound. See the Judge, our nature wearing, Clothed in majesty divine You who long for His appearing Then shall say, “This God is mine.” Gracious Saviour, own me in that day as Thine.

Will you be able to sing along with this hymn, or will you have to cry out, “Mountains, fall upon me; hills, cover me!”? It is certain that He is coming. In what state shall He find us? Let us approach His throne with a true heart, in faith, looking unto Jesus! Then we shall be eternally home.
