Moses Defends His People
He spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren. And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand. Exodus 2:11,12
Read Exodus 2:11-15
As Moses grew, he knew he had not been born in the palace of Pharaoh. He belonged to the Hebrew people who lived in the land of Goshen. In verse eleven of our Scripture reading, we are told that Moses went to his brethren, the Hebrew people. He belonged to them and not to the nation of Egypt. He understood that his people were the people of God with whom the Lord had a special relationship.
You too, dear reader, have been set apart from the world for the Lord. He has given you His covenant. However, Moses’ choice for God and His people was not made first of all by him; it was God’s work. Man by himself never chooses God; already in Paradise man had made the wrong choice. Yet the Lord is willing to work in sinners’ hearts through His Word and Spirit. The choice Moses made for the Lord became apparent when he defended one of his brethren, a Hebrew slave, who was being beaten by an Egyptian taskmaster. Moses killed the Egyptian, and it cost him the privileged place he had in Pharaoh’s court. What are you willing to sacrifice for God and His people?
Thought: Has God enabled you to make this ‘right choice’?
Psalter 415: 6 (based on Psalm 25) Who is he that fears Jehovah, Walking with Him day by day? God will lead him safely onward, Guide him in the chosen way. Then at ease his soul shall rest, In Jehovah still confiding; E’en his children shall be blest, Safely in the land abiding.
