Read Genesis 39:1-4
Joseph was brought as a slave to Egypt. He had no say in the matter; he was powerless to avoid the various temptations he was confronted with in Egypt. While living in the house of Potiphar, he was forced to breathe the air of Egyptian society. How could he remain untainted?
Look at the world around you. How can a Christian stand while surrounded by such ungodliness? Just like Joseph, you are right in the middle of it. You cannot escape from the world, so what can you do? Genesis 39:2 gives us the answer, “And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.”
The Lord was with Joseph; the Lord dwelt with His Holy Spirit in Joseph’s heart. Joseph’s experience was the fulfillment of the promise of the name Immanuel. God was with him, also in his Egyptian surroundings. Joseph did not have to face his dilemma alone. He looked up to the Lord. He knew that the eye of the Lord was upon him, and that truth defined the secret of his life.
