The Spirit of Enlightenment
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. John 16:13

There are not many people today who can be relied on to always tell the truth. But God’s Word is the truth. Something is either true or not true; we cannot speak of something being half true. The Spirit of truth has been sent by God to lead and guide you into His truth. Try to imagine this truth of God as a large building in which many things are put on display. When you look around at the various displays without the help of a guide, you will overlook many important details. Moreover, you will not have a clear understanding of their meaning without someone’s help.
The Holy Spirit has been sent into the world to guide mankind on the pathway of life; He does this by using the Bible. He alone is able to reveal many truths you would otherwise not understand. A well-known and familiar passage may seem to leap off the page you were reading, giving it a new meaning. As Spurgeon said, the Word of God comes with great light. As the Spirit guides, He ensures that you do not skip over any of the rooms in God’s building of truth. He lets you see the dark room of sin and guilt. He reveals the light of the cross, the brightness of a holy, consecrated life and the beautiful view of a new heaven and a new earth. All these truths and much more are seen when the Lord Jesus is revealed as the heavenly High Priest of His people. Through His Spirit, He leads His people into all truth.
Thought: Have you received the Holy Spirit as your guide through God’s Word?
Psalter 428:2 (based on Psalm 119) O let Thy Spirit be my constant aid, That all my ways may ever be directed To keep Thy statutes, so to be obeyed, That from all error I may be protected. I shall not be ashamed then or afraid, When Thy commandments I have e’er respected.
