Wondrous Dealings
Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth. Jeremiah 26:6
Read Jeremiah 26:1-7
The Lord fulfills His own Word. He had promised to be with His servant in the face of opposition. In our text chapter, He performed what He had declared by means of the secular rulers. At a critical moment, they heard how Jeremiah relied upon the Word of the Lord; as a result they were very impressed. Before them stood an individual who spoke with conviction! Jeremiah stood his ground. He was not merely a disturber of Israel. He proved to be correct in his discourse for he had spoken in the name of the Lord. Love for God and His people had motivated Jeremiah to speak the Word of the Lord. This resulted in the atmosphere being completely changed. The authorities began to see that he was in the right. Thankfully there were still rulers who stood for what was just and right.
Do you see how the Lord fulfills His Word through these developments? The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it wheresoever he will (Prov. 21:1). Never think too small of the Lord; He can make all things work together for good. Through the Holy Spirit, He convinced secular rulers that God was with Jeremiah and that His love motivated him.
Thought: How can our preconceived ideas about churches, ministers, and preaching be reversed?
Psalter 222: 7,8 (based on Psalm 81) If My people would obey Me, Gladly walking in My ways, Soon would I, their foes subduing, Fill their lips with songs of praise. All the haters of Jehovah Shall His clemency implore, And the days of those that love Him, Shall endure for evermore.
