“Turn again unto the LORD God…” —2 Chronicles 30:6
Read 2 Chronicles 30:1-12
The Passover had not been celebrated for a long time and God’s statutes were being neglected in a most terrible way. God’s blessing could not rest on this situation; the Lord does not give His ordinances just to be ignored.
King Hezekiah sent messengers throughout the land to urge the nation to come to celebrate the Passover. To do so profitably, however, they had to repent of their sins. Immediately following the king’s command is the following promise: “and he will return” (v. 6). In verse 9 we read, “For if ye turn again unto the LORD… [you] shall find compassion…for the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him.”
What the Lord says here to Old Testament Israel is also, wonderfully, meant for you! However, as we continue reading this chapter, we see how Hezekiah’s messengers were ridiculed. Some of the Israelites did humble themselves, and because they repented, they were able to celebrate the Passover.
God’s message comes also to you today, encouraging you to repent and to seek the Lord and His communion. Therefore humble yourselves and cry out to God, “Oh God, be merciful to me the sinner!” Confess your sin and guilt to the Lord and beg for His forgiveness. Ask the Lord to change your life so that you cannot live without Him any longer.
What blessing does Christ’s atonement have in store for you?
